On our additional day at sea, we wandered the decks of the Pride of America.
We sat in on a napoleon pastry-making demonstration in the Mardi Gras Lounge.

One of the two dessert napoleons that were projected on demonstration screen ended up on our table.

The chef gave away his two creations and we were among the recipients! The 25-30 others in the audience received pre-made smaller napoleons.
Hilo: The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden
When we docked in Hilo, we got our pre-rented car and drove to this beautiful garden attraction.

One remarkable observation were the many plants growing right on tree trunks.

Near the exit was a large plant hosting many geckos.

A nice stop and not too vast.
Café 100
We drove to where the locals go eat. Café 100 is known for its loco moco, the popular Hawaiian breakfast plate.

Funny thing, we didn’t order the loco moco — there were so many delicious options on their menu that we chose other items. We ended up getting fried chicken and beef stew plates. There was so much food, we couldn’t finish it all.

Richardson Ocean Park
Next, we wanted to see a black sand beach, and found that nearby there’s a black and green sand beach!
The green grains are olivine crystals.

Big Island Beef Jerky and Snacks
This place has the biggest inventory of jerky I’ve ever seen!
There’s beef jerky, bacon jerky, lamb jerky, salmon jerky, tuna jerky…

…venison jerky, elk jerky, wild boar jerky, buffalo jerky, alligator jerky, and on and on.

And they carry locally-made Chex mixes.
